SL Living Expo - The Courage to Hope


The SL Living Expo is ongoing now through March 12th.  This is a large expo replacing, and expanding upon, the Home & Garden Expo.  Donations go to Relay for Life, supporting The American Cancer Society.  A percentage of purchases at this event goes to Relay for Life, or you can make a direct donation through the event website, HERE. 

The main event landing hub is HERE.  Take some time to wander through the beautiful areas and enjoy the scenery too!  

I selected a few items found at the event to create my pic above.  They are lovely spring items, a reminder of our renewal every year with courage and hope.  Included below a direct LMs to the creators.  Thank you for the opportunity to be even a small part of this important event.

The Ertina Loopen Memorial Foundation


Prior to the opening of the Relay for Life Home & Garden Expo 2021, I had the opportunity meet Journey Texan.  Below, I have copied the information he shared about an extraordinary woman and fellow Second Lifer.

The Ertina Loopen Memorial Foundation supports the American Cancer Society (ACS) as a tribute to Ertina Loopen, a Second Life resident from 2010-2020. 

Tina was a Relay For Life (RFL) volunteer for seven years before being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. Months before she would be diagnosed with breast cancer, she had expressed an interest to do more by taking on additional volunteer responsibilities at RFL fundraising events.

Unfortunately, Tina's cancer illness and death from the chemotherapy that was used to treat her single, small breast cancer cut her aspirations short. 

After her death, the Foundation was created to both remind us of Tina's gentle friendship while with us, as well as to help fulfill her desire to "do more" for others.

The Foundation's RFL team has a web page for joining in the effort to raise awareness and support for the ACS through events that help benefit caregivers, survivors, those in treatment, as well as to pay tribute to all of those who we have lost along the way.

ERTINA LOOPEN MEMORIAL HOME & GARDEN
After Tina's death, her Second Life (SL) premium account was closed due to non-payment. Surprisingly, some of her belongings remained at her inworld skybox residence. Her landlord generously allowed the residence to be converted into the Ertina Loopen Memorial Home & Garden to honor Tina's memory. It remains open and available to the public 24/7 at the SLurl / landmark below. An ACS / RFL donation kiosk is available there for anyone who may wish to make even the smallest of contributions.

TEAM EVENTS
In 2021, the Foundation will host its second "Walk the Loop[en]"commemorative event during the first weekend of August. The 2-hour couple's walk will enable participants to enjoy lovely views of the Ville de Coeur regions that include a quaint village and surrounding countryside inspired by the real life French Riviera. It was a meaningful anniversary celebration walk that Tina looked forward to sharing with her partner every year. Now, it can be shared with you.

The walking event offers an opportunity for participants to make a charitable donation to the ACS. But more importantly, it emphasizes the importance of taking time to celebrate the relationships that they have. Walk together with your special someone. Or use it as a way to introduce yourself and get to know someone new. Take time out from your usual activities to see and do something that can be rewarding in a unique and memorable way.

Yes Commander, I told him to quit messin around out there and get the kryptonite.


It's that time again - the Relay for Life Home & Garden Expo 2021 starts on February 27th!  This HUGE wonderful event benefits the American Cancer Society.  Come out and be part of the donation giving celebration to help save lifes and celebrate life.  Our purchases translate into real life money to help stamp out cancer.  Together we can do this!

Here, we've got to help the superheros against bad guys galore.  Superman is out of kryptonite so we've been commissioned to get some.  Now if Harry will quit messin around out there and GET it, we can be on our way home that must faster.  We may even have to put out a call for Batman!  In all this madness, it's like we're in an episode of The Twilight Zone.  (hearing eerie theme music)
