If you never watched the 1977 Fantasy Island series, you at least know what it is. Ricardo Montalbán as Roarke says "Welcome...to Fantasy Island," and his sidekick Hervé Villechaize assists with orchestrating guest wish fulfillments. Seven seasons with Ricardo and guest appearances in each episode. Not a bad run.
In 1998, Malcolm McDowell took over as Roarke. His inclusion alone had me tuning in, but I lost interest with the assistants' comedic attempts. This version only lasted one season.
With a tad of research for this post, hey, I had no idea there is a movie version! A "horror prequel version," to be exact, by Blumhouse in 2020. I checked out a trailer - think I'll be watching that one. Horror movies are allowed to be bad but still be watchable. This has sparked my interest the most. I wonder what that says about me. ;)
Interestingly (or not), this show will reboot in the fall of 2021. I have watched one trailer. Roselyn Sanchez is playing the lead as island host and since her character's last name is also Roarke as in the original, I suspect she is a family descendant.
Let's hop on "de plane, de plane!" and create our own Fantasy Island, shall we?
