It's a shame that most people don't know, or recall, that The Star-Spangled Banner actually has three verses. Singing all three would make for a very long sports prelude, it's true. But some of the patriotic emotion is lacking. Today on this 4th of July, please take a moment and read the entire lyrics as they were written; it's really beautiful.

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen thru the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
