Astrud Gilberto sang "The Girl From Ipanema." It was the first song the Brazilian songstress ever recorded, garnering worldwide recognition. Ahh, such a beautiful song, a bossa nova. It won a Grammy award in 1965. Astrud received no royalties, and only a $120 session fee for recording. Her husband was actually the musical mainstay; at the time Astrud was happy to keep the home fires burning for the most part. I listen to a news station in my car to and from work, and learned that she died earlier this month at the age of 83. She will be missed, and her song will live on.
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, I smile, but she
Doesn't see. She just doesn't see....
